 Well , simply because this one is better!  It is much easier  for clients to use. Now you will set up an account  (its free & not a scam)  and you will only have to sign in to check out when all of your appointments are scheduled. Fall Update...

 First thing you may notice  when you walk in the  door at the salon is a new desk.. I have been needing to have my own little area for a while now &  it is  really nice to have all my stuff in one area. And  the  art over my desk is a oil pastel my mother did in high school that Marty recently had  framed for me.

       Online booking

You may notice that you need to enter your address as well as phone and emails now. This  is so I have  your CURRENT   address.  Also Remember that what ever  email address you put down  will be the  one your reminders go to 24 hours before. So if you never check your home address, you may want to use your work email instead.

      When you are booking an appointment online, all you need to do is first pick the service you  are wanting to have done, and  then choose one of the times the program gives you. YOU  DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES - the program figures that out.

      If you make a mistake and choose the wrong category  , I will go in and change it to the correct one (I get an alert that you booked).  IF  I do not have enough time   available then I will contact you  and let you know what your other options are.

      If you DO NOT get a confirmation letter  within a few minutes of booking- You did not actually finish the booking and  don’t actually  have an appointment.

       If you are  wanting to make a change like  "how about this time more red…" ect - Please let me know  in advance by contacting me before booking your appointment.  I generally need more time  and possibly a product that I  don’t always have on hand to make   the change you are hoping for. 

         Another  topic that is  frequently   asked of me is  "Why bother washing my hair if you are going to do it anyway…?"

The answer is different for different people. 

If you are only getting a haircut. Then yes I am going to wash it  pretty much right away..

 If you are going to have  your  hair colored  I am most likely NOT going to wash it first.  Most  color   is made to be used on clean dry hair.

 A good thing to  remember is that when covering grey hair , the  more dirt & oil that is on the hair the  harder it is for   the color to do its job .

 So shampoo  your scalp gently on the day of your color.

 Same with foiling, excess oil slows down the  process .

  So if you are having color done - it is best if the hair is clean,  some product is ok, but  the oilier it is, the less gray coverage you may get or the harder it is to get it nice & blonde.

  Also ,  think about it this way , If you wouldn’t want to run your fingers through it -   neither do I  :) 

         While  we are talking about changes this is a good time to tell you that  while doing major changes  like going back and forth between blonde & dark brown CAN be done, Is  it is  not a quick and easy process.  We often see movie stars go from blonde to brown then back to blonde again for their various roles. What you don’t see, is how many hours over often multiple appointments this  takes to have her hair looking great!  Likewise  most of us regular folk don’t have unlimited resources to make these changes. There is a lot of time, skill, and product that goes into these major changes. 

I had a client who was having financial troubles  & thought she would try to color her own hair.  The first time it wasn’t too bad- not great  though. After overlapping the color a few times , the ends  got opaque,  and her grow out looked worse and worse. SOOO she comes to me to say  "FIX IT!!"    After a long process of  removals   it  finally got to a  reasonable shade.   The point is  she ended up spending WAY more on her hair after this fiasco  when all she wanted to do was save money by using a box...

  Just something I wanted you to be aware of ….

 Also , a little (late) note about summer haircare… CONDITION!!!!!!!!

 No , really!  Most people use a daily conditioner on their hair - It moistens and smoothes the cuticle   for the most part.  But come summer time - we abuse  our hair like crazy. Salt water, chlorine ,  wind whipping the hair around on the boat,  SUN.  What about air conditioning?   You know how much it dries out your nose  eyes & skin?  Well- ditto your hair..Do you do extra conditioning  to it ??  Most people don’t  deep condition enough on a regular basis. Wavier hair needs more moisture added because it is usually drier- now  add the summer factors & you have a frizzy mess. Fine hair can get brittle & get more breakage when it doesn’t have enough moisture. There are lots of conditioners at many price points, all  work a bit differently. So   feel free to ask me which  treatment  would be the best for your hair.  So if now, at the end of the season you are noticing your hair is feeling  a little less luxurious - you know why...

NEW PRODUCTS ALERT!!!!

 Pureology has come out with  two new conditioners. First is Hydrate Light.  The name pretty much says it all . It is  lighter than the regular Hydrate conditioner but more moisturizing than the  Volume conditioner…This daily conditioner

Rebellious, unruly hair?  

Pureology has  two new products, SuperSmooth RelaxingSerum and SmoothingCream,• SuperSmooth RelaxingSerum: CONTROL FLYAWAYS.

                  There  is also a couple changes to the styling line up … A couple products are discontinued :  One of which is the Styling lotion  Not sure if they  are being repackaged or revamped, but I am told there are replacements on the way. November will bring us new products!

Fortifying Heat Spray-

I'm excited!

So here is what’s new at Colorworks!

  First off, I started the month by going to a class to learn the finer points of using Marcia  Teixeira Keratin smoothing treatment.

It is a treatment of keratin carefully applied then driven deep into the hair to leave it soft, shiny and frizz free for up to 4 months. The small size of the Keratin molecules penetrate under the hair’s cuticle and seep into the inner hair shaft, helping to improve the quality of the hair from the inside.  The Keratin fills in the gaps between the cuticle and the inner hair shaft and becomes sealed into the hair’s inner structure by the high heat flat iron.  It penetrates the hair repairing internal damage and coats the hair preventing further damage. The results are SOFT, SHINY, STRAIGHT hair.It can be used on dyed or highlighted hair.  It does NOT use strong chemicals to open and close the hair cuticle in an effort to straighten it, “breaking the bonds” of the hair shaft. Keratin is a natural substance which comprises approximately 88% of your hair.

   I was also invited to a class introducing a revolutionary new color line!

Love the look of your hair after a trip to the salon, but hate the overpowering smell of hair color? Me too! Now you can get amazing color results without the smell of ammonia or the scalp irritation that can come along with it. Instead of using traditional ammonia, the INOA line uses MOA along with an oil-based gel and a cream developer. The revolutionary Oil Delivery System (ODS), actually results in richer color and smoother hair.  The ODS provides twice as much lipid protection to hair allowing for a better-preserved hair fiber while reducing scalp discomfort. So far it is available in 49 shades.

   This is a huge advancement in hair color technology! Standing for "innovation no ammonia", INOA is not only better for the health of your hair, but it is said to produce better results too. INOA does not upset the hair cuticle as much as conventional hair dyes, preserving hair strength. Also, since there's no smelly ammonia, there's no reason to pour on the fragrance, which is the culprit behind the scratchy irritation many women feel while processing hair color.  I am very excited to have this new product in the salon.  I will still be using Schwarzkopf and Goldwell also- please let me know if you are interested in upgrading to INOA !

I am very excited to be taking a full week off! I will be going up to Canada and staying in a posh waterfront home at Bliss Landing! I plan on relaxing as much as possible.  You can still book your appointments online for before or after my trip. If you haven’t tried the online booking yet, please do J  It is SUPER easy & you do not need to know how long to book the appointment for, just what you want to have done. It will only give you options that are available so if you don’t see the day or time you want – It’s probably already booked. If you can’t find a time that   works you can still call, email or text me and I will help you. So far everyone loves it! Several people commented they like it because they felt more comfortable trying to get a last minute appointment. Others like it since they always think of booking an appointment late at night. One thing to remember is; if you have booked an appointment and did not immediately get a confirmation letter in your email, it may be going to your spam file. Save Genbook as a friend & it shouldn’t happen again.

       The winner for the Mothers Day portrait was Leslie Nelson. If anyone deserves to be treated special it is her. I am looking forward to working with both her & Jennifer Finch on this project! Kindling........

         Ok my  so I am going to blather about my Kindle on this post. What is a Kindle?  Really??  You dont know???  It is SO awesome if you are a book  reader.

It is an electronic book  that will store about 1500 books!  It is great if you travel, and like me, used to take several books and pack them in my suitcase when I went on trips. Well, of course now with weight and baggage limits thats a no no. But I  hate not being able to read just the right book when I finally have the time to sit and relax!  So here is my list of all the reasons why I LOVE my Kindle:

1. You can make the type bigger or smaller. I find that late at night, my eyes are more tired & I like a bigger print, but during the day  I want more words per page .... So I adjust!    Kindle has six adjustable font sizes to suit your reading preference. Now every book in your library can be large print.
2. If I dont know what a  word means when I am reading I can highlight on it for the definition. And it has a dictionary built right into  the bookmarks  so you don't need to be reading a book to look up the definitions. Kindle includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the definitions of English words without interrupting your reading. Come across a word you don't know? Simply move the cursor to it and the definition will automatically display at the bottom of the screen.Simply look it up and keep reading.  
3. Like to  make notes or highlight in your book? By using the QWERTY keyboard, you can add annotations to text, just like you might write in the margins of a book. And because it is digital, you can edit, delete, and export your notes. You can highlight and clip key passages and bookmark pages for future use. You'll never need to bookmark your last place in the book, because Kindle remembers for you and always opens to the last page you read. So cool!
   
   
   
4. Free Book Samples!!! Download and read first chapters for free before you decide to buy them. Amazon is up to over 500,000 books available! (there was about 350,000 when I got mine in September)  All kinds of books too not just  the best sellers.There are plenty of FREE booksI check this page almost every day to see what new freebies are available. I have over 300 books on my Kindle right now & have only bought like 2 or 3 of them. also you can look here.or here  too.
5.      I like reading on my side at night in bed. It is so easy to read every page not   just the right page if I am laying on my left side.
6.      The screen is not shiny . the ink on the "page" totally mimics real paper. It is NOT backlit- so it does not cause eye strain like a computer screen.
7.       It is small enough to actually fit in my purse. Ok, well  in some  of my purses:)
8.  If I am not near my computer, I buy my books  right from the Kindle.  Or if someone suggests a book to me I can right then and there order  a sample of it   before I forget the author...
9.  Kindle books  are  good for the environment!  Books made with paper are referred to as "dead tree books" on some Kindle blogs=)
10. Authors DO still get paid for Kindle books.                                                                                     .......................                                                                                                                               I know , I know - I'm ranting! Week one...

        So far it has been a week since I have began using the online booking system. The feedback I have got so far has all been positive. A few people did not know that if you want to change your appointment you should delete the appointment that you don't want by following the link on the confirmation email. Also, if you do not get a confirmation email, check your spam bin. Sometimes  your email provider will see it as spam.You should always get a  confirmation email immediately after booking an appointment.
             
 Did you know you can send your DOG or CAT hair in to help clean up oil spills??!! Yep! I am involved with a program

 where I send hair clippings off to help make products that help clean up oil spills. If you have a pet that sheds like crazy, next time you brush  them, bag up the hair & bring it in to me and I will add it to my shipment & you can help clean up oil spills too! They also accept (clean) pantyhose . I, however, wear them only when made to, so I don't think I will be sending many pairs. Here is a photo of the hair I removed from 3 of my dogs to add to the  shipment!

               Also, I am getting ready to call in a  big special order again. This is how I get you your tools at the cheapest price possible. So now is the time to make a list & get it to me if you need any of the following:

     This  Monday I am taking a  class to learn all about the newest line of keratin smoothing treatment. I will post a before and after of the model on the next  post.  It is incredible, taking curly hair and making it smooth & easy to style without frying it like the  old thio straighteners. I am thinking now that I have cut my hair so short and the curl  has taken over, I may have to do mine next!

  I am also going to be taking another Elumen class in May. Elumen is a high-performance, oxidant-free hair color without ammonia, without peroxide, without damage - it has outstanding vibrancy, shine and durability. Elumen dyes are held inside the hair by a kind of magnetic attraction. No oxidation, no peroxide, no ammonia . It  comes  in over 21 shades that doesn't cover grey , but  definitely can make it more interesting!

• I am finding that using the Facebook fan page isn't quite meeting my needs anymore, so I decided to create a simple blog page to keep you all informed of new happenings here in the salon. This will be a place where I will post all new things like promotions, sales ect. I will probably still do some facebooking but I really wanted a place to be able to send a note to all or some people easily. Now I can post on here & just send a link in an email to all the people that may be interested. Also, this may be a better place for you "ANTI-Facebookers" !
• In the column on the left,just below the picture,is a button you can click to go to an online sight to book an appointment 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Its super easy to do and I highly recommend you try it. So far it has got great reviews from my clients who have tried it! No longer if you want to book an appointment over my weekend,do you have to wait till I get back to work & have five seconds to check messages! If you have a question or something you want me to know about your service there is a place to put a note. It will send you a confirmation email after you finish, then 24 hours before your appointment it will send you an email to remind you . As of right now, you can book an appointment up to a month in advance- and as little as 2 hours before your appointment (if one is available) . Pretty cool huh? So those impulsive last minute checks to see if you can get your hair done may work for you.
• If you want to book an appointment further than 4 weeks in the future, I can do that for you- just let me know.
• YES you may still call for an appointment .
• Also if you need to cancel your appointment you can do so online until 2 hours before your appointment. If you need to move an appointment to a different time , don't forget to cancel the undesired appointment. I do understand life happens and a 24 hour notice is not always possible. Last minute cancellations take up time that someone else cant book and I cant fill with little notice. This causes me loss of revenue and makes it harder for everyone to get the time slot they want.If this becomes a habit, you will either be charged for your missed appointment or no longer allowed to schedule with me. Thank you for understanding.
